Do you know how long I’ve been dreading this tag? I love tags. You all know I do. But I’ve been wondering how long I’d push this one off. The lovely Kathy from Books and Munches tagged me. Or should I say torture me?
One Major Rule
You have to pick ONE GENRE that you frequently read about and then you can’t use ANY books from that genre while answering the questions!
WHY WOULD ANYONE MAKE THIS RULE?! Okay, okay. I’m fine. I always read YA fantasy, so I’m screwed for all of these questions. 😅 Let’s get to the post, yes?
A book that is an exception when it comes to genres or elements you don’t typically like
I don’t like contemporary. I rarely read it. I’d rather prefer to disappear into a great fantasy and completely forget about the world I live in. But Fight Club is one story I knew I needed to read in my lifetime. And I am so happy I did.
A book you enjoyed from a genre you previously held some stigma against
I am not a huge romance reader. Until this year, I rarely read paranormal romance or reverse harem. And I swore off the romance genre because I couldn’t find a well-written series. But Tate James changed my mind. I thought I was loving the whole mate concept, but the #WhyChoose movement is tempting.
A book you didn’t know was out of your comfort zone until you started reading it
I actually don’t mind reading historical books. I like them even if they aren’t in my favourite genre. But at the last half of the book, Jamie gets attacked. While sexual assault is difficult to read for me, the way Diana describes his torture in great detail still haunts me. I cannot pick up the book or watch that episode of the show.
Pick a friend who motivates you to pick up books you might not normally be interested in—is there a book they convinced you to give a try?
Taylor and Kaleena persuaded me into reading Mortal Coil. Science fiction isn’t on the top of my to-read list, but I love dystopian storylines. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and I can’t pass up that opportunity.
A book that is out of your comfort zone, but you would like to read
Quite a few people convinced me to read Sadie even though it’s a book I typically stay away from. But a part of me wants to know what happens and how it ends.
A book or genre so outside of your comfort zone that you’ll probably never give it a chance
I love reading historical fiction, especially Canadian. But like I’ve stated before, sexual assault scenes in books are extremely hard to get through. And if a story revolves around abuse, I usually skip it, especially if the scenes or flashbacks are vivid. I read snippets of this book, and I had to put it down. I cannot stomach child sexual abuse.
The Next Sufferers
I’m sorry. It’s the Canadian in me to say that. But I am truly sorry for making you suffer alongside me. No, this tag will be fun though. It makes you think and question everything about you as a reader. So if you’re up to it, link back to my post! And anyone I haven’t tagged can certainly participate.

Thanks for the tag! This looks super frustrating… I mean fun… Haha, but really this is a fun one.

Thanks for the tag!! Sadie is good!! I agree about Outlander! I had such a hard time with that part of the book. I didn’t know about it when I was watching the show and was in quite a shock. It was hard to watch and I had to skim most of the book when I started reading that part. So graphic.
