Top Ten Tuesday | Books On My TBR I’m Avoiding Reading

Happy Tuesday, bloggers!

Fall is quickly arriving, I’m trying to catch up on my Goodreads Challenge, and I feel as if this year is flying by too quickly. Life needs to slow down for a month or more so I can catch my breath.

Top Ten Tuesday, originally created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is a weekly meme. The next prompt is books on my TBR I’m avoiding and why. I am loving this topic. Why? Because I avoid so many titles that I’m not surprised my TBR list is this large.

I hope you love my choices! Have fun, everyone!

Girls of Paper and Fire

As a survivor, I have a difficult time picking up a book with sexual abuse in it. I open the book, I question what I’m doing, then I put it back onto my shelf. But I’ve heard a lot of readers who have said people need to read this book. So there’s that.

Queen Takes Knights

As I delve more into reverse harem, I’m careful about which books I purchase since I don’t have a Kindle. But I can’t escape the fact that readers have warned about certain scenes in the vampire-themed novel that I may not like. I’m still hesitant on it and not sure if I’ll ever read it.

Bright We Burn

I bought the book before it came out. I was eager to see what happens next. But ever since it arrived at my house, I was so worried about reading it because I know what happened in real life, so I know how this tale will end. And I’m not ready for it. I’m not ready to let go of these characters or this story.

Stalking Jack the Ripper

My blogger gang keeps telling me to read this series. But here I am, putting it on my TTT list. My expectations are high, and I don’t want them disappointed. I have a soft spot for historical fiction, so this needs to live up to a lot.

Lover Mine

John Matthew has gone through so much pain and loss. And I have a sense of what will happen to him and Xhex. And I’m damn scared to read it. But I want to, do you know what I’m saying? I adore these two characters, and I want to know them more. They deserve their time as main characters.

Four Psychos

A woman who’s a ghost watching four smoldering men. How can I not read this book? Again, Kindle. But also the fact that I expect this series to completely destroy me. I just hope Kristy can succeed such an act.

Broken Wings

I haven’t read many dark high school romance books, so I’m not sure what to expect. However, I love Tate and her writing. And I have a thing about cars and illegal racing. So it’s meant to be, right?

Pestilence

If I don’t read this book, I think my blogger gang will disown me or bug me until I read it. So I don’t have much of a choice when it comes to the series. I’m a bit worried since I don’t find pestilence that sexy though, so I’ll see how this title turns out.

  1. I’ve heard of a few of these, but haven’t read them. I too find it hard to read a book if its subject feels a little too personal (at least if it’s an unpleasant subject), so I tend to read all the happier, more lighthearted reads. Speaking of darker reads, despite it not being my kind of genre, I kinda think I want to read “Stalking Jack the Ripper”! It sounds quite interesting.

  2. Honestly, I’ve read and loved Girls of Paper and Fire but I’m the first to say that it needs a huge trigger warning and I wouldn’t go into if I wasn’t in a good place at the time. I also wouldn’t go into if it might trigger me into a bad place. Doesn’t matter how good a book is, self care is much more important ❤

  3. Queen Takes Knights is a recent add to my own TBR. I haven’t read a lot of reverse harem but am hesitant for the same reasons… I don’t often read dark romance. I also think there’s a kindle app so you can read ebooks via the app if you don’t have a kindle 🙂

  5. I just finished Pestilence yesterday and I enjoyed it. You might want to give that one a try.
As far as Four Pyschos, I only read up until book 3 because the wait was so long between books that I forgot to go back lol. However, the first two were really good!

  6. “I was so worried about reading it because I know what happened in real life, so I know how this tale will end. And I’m not ready for it.” IS COMPLETELY HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT, TOO. I’m not ready to say goodbye.

  7. Blogger gang member here to tell you that you won’t find Pestilence sexy because 1) it’s gross when you think about it, and 2) he’s abusive af. But it is an interesting read, and the second book has a lot better handle on the abusive components while also diving into the lore of the Four Horsemen more.
