Happy Tuesday, bloggers!
We’re about halfway through May, and I have no sense of time anymore. Please tell me I’m not alone. So anyway, I usually don’t DNF series, but sometimes I step away from them for a long period.
Top Ten Tuesday, originally created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is a weekly meme. This week is about the top ten books I’ve abandoned. I’ve decided to pick the top five.
I hope you enjoy the post!
Sadie
King of Scars
One of the only series I love from Leigh is Six of Crows. Her debut one didn’t do anything for me. And I thought her writing would improve and follow in the footsteps of her duology, but no, it doesn’t.
Honor Lost
I’m a little creeped out with the whole trouple with the sentient space whale. Don’t get me wrong: I adore trouples. I’m just not sure if I’m comfortable with this one. So I might pass on finishing the series.
Tower of Dawn
Sarah has done me dirty. She tore my heart out of my gaping chest after Empire of Storms. AND I’M NOT READY TO SUFFER MORE. But I need to know how this brilliant series ends. I want my babies to be happy. So I’ll eventually pick this one up so I don’t feel the wrath of Jess.
Ninth House
I haven’t read it yet, and I truly don’t know if I ever will anytime soon. It contains a lot of triggers I’m not comfortable with.
As much as I love Leigh Bardugo, I admit I picked up and put down Ninth House about three times since I bought it back in October. Can’t win with them all.

I haven’t read King of Scars yet, although I do plan to someday. I did read Ninth House though, and most of her other books.

I was weirded out by “sentient space whale” even before I noticed the “trouple” part. I’m gonna go with good call there.

I think a lot of people have a really weird relationship with Leigh Bardugo and her books – everyone loves Six of Crows but everything else I’ve read or tried to read from her is just not as good in comparison! You’re the first person I’ve seen to say you’ve abandoned Sadie, everyone else seems to love it!

King of Scars definitely didn’t live up to my high expectations after Six of Crows. And Ninth House just doesn’t sound like it would be for me.

Wait a minute, a trouple with a sentient space whale!? Haha I… Wow. I like the look of that cover though 😂 I still have Ninth House and King of Scars on my TBR but have heard very very mixed reviews about both. Great list!

I’m still hesitating on reading the TOG series. I read Acotar and loved it then I moved on to the first TOG book and it was only a meh for me. Though I have been told the series gets better.

I loved Ninth House and I have King of Scars on my summer TBR. Leigh Bardugo is one of my favourite authors so I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

I loved SADIE but can see how it is a trigger book. Good plan to abandon it if it triggered pain for you. Books I’ve Abandoned

People either seem to love or hate Sadie. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it.

I liked Ninth House, but there are several triggering incidents – I was also a little uncomfortable that someone could just walk away from addiction and substance use “just like that”

I love Leigh Bardugo’s YA books but honestly I have zero interest in reading Ninth House

I am seeing a lot of high fantasy and similar books being abandoned. I wonder why that is?

I haven’t read any of these, but I was really surprised by all the mixed reviews for Ninth House. It was such a hyped book. Glad I waited before purchasing it. 🙂

Brilliant post! You’ve got some interesting books here – I couldn’t get into Sadie either. However, I recently read king of scars and really enjoyed it, although I agree that it was slow. 🙂 Here’s my review of the book: https://hundredsandthousandsofbooks.blog/2020/08/09/king-of-scars/
