Beyond the Blurb | Are Selling, Trading, and Hoarding of ARCs the Next Necessary Evil?

Morning, everyone!

Let’s say this next discussion topic, in my Beyond the Blurb series, branches off from my previous post about the blogosphere fighting over ARCs. They are a controversial topic and a problem that many bloggers, readers, and reviewers deal with.

More and more, I see international bloggers struggle to request them. Even though I am Canadian, and there are several Canadian-based publishers in the country, I may very well be overlooked by American-based ones. Either North American laws prevent them from acknowledging me, or they don’t see the point. And don’t get me started on American giveaways and pre-order contests. However, at least I have some options nationally. But many international bloggers do not.

Top Ten Tuesday | My Favourite Platonic Relationships

Hey, everyone!

This week is shaping out to be better than the last. And I can’t wait to get back to normal blogging.

Top Ten Tuesday, originally created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is a weekly meme. Today’s theme is platonic relationships! I love this topic and have been waiting to do it in such a long time. You don’t see much talk about these relationships, but I love reading about them though.

So let’s get to the post. Here are my top choices of platonic relationships. I hope you enjoy!

Beyond the Blurb | The Struggles of Blogging with a Mental Illness

I always stay honest with you, my readers and fellow bloggers. With my discussion posts, Beyond the Blurb, I like to bring up the tough and also hushed up topics, try to find solutions, and connect with you. You all know I have several mental illnesses. Yes, unfortunately, I have more than one. And I never thought they would affect my blogging. But they do on a constant basis.

This topic is rather personal. Mental illness will follow you even if you think it’s disappeared. And I’ve allowed it to control my life. I’m finding help and getting treatment. But sometimes, I struggle with mine, and I don’t always reach out to bloggers who comment on my blog or like my posts. I apologize for not connecting. I’m not ignoring you; I’m simply fighting my own mind.

I often find solace in helping others who struggle with the same problems. So here are tips to find a balance between blogging and mental illness:

Three-Day Lyrical Challenge (Day 3)

Morning, everyone!

I want to thank Sara from Bibliophagist for tagging me. Today’s the last day of the challenge! I’ve had such a blast with this tag, and I can’t wait to see what you all think about my next pick.

The rules are simple:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  3. Nominate three other bloggers each day.

Since it’s October, you know I cannot resist finishing off this challenge with a twist. This song is my all-time favourite Halloween song. And naturally, I pick Marilyn Manson for the artist. I hope you enjoy!

Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn’t you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It’s our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween
I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red
I am the one hiding under your stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
In this town, don’t we love it now?
Everybody’s waiting for the next surprise
‘Round that corner, man hiding in the trash can
Something’s waiting no to pounce, and how you’ll
Scream! This is Halloween
Red ‘n’ black, and slimy green
Aren’t you scared?
Well, that’s just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take a chance and roll the dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night
Everybody scream, everybody scream
In our town of Halloween!
I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace
I am the “who” when you call, “Who’s there?”
I am the wind blowing through your hair
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
Halloween! Halloween!
Tender lumplings everywhere
Life’s no fun without a good scare
That’s our job, but we’re not mean
In our town of Halloween
In this town
Don’t we love it now?
Everybody’s waiting for the next surprise
Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin
This is Halloween, everybody scream
Won’t ya please make way for a very special guy
Our man Jack is King of the Pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King, now!
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
La la la la la la la la la la (Halloween! Halloween!)
La la la la la la la la la la (Halloween! Halloween!)

Three-Day Lyrical Challenge (Day 2)

Hey, everyone!

Since this week has been so bloody busy, I forgot to finish the rest of the challenge. 😅 So I’d like to thank Sara from Bibliophagist for tagging me!

The rules are simple:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  3. Nominate three other bloggers each day.

Today is day 2 of the challenge. And since I watched Venom last night, I want to pick a superhero-theme song, “Heroes” by Gang of Youths, which covered the original song by David Bowie. I fell in love with it when I first watched Justice League.

I, I wish I could swim
Just like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim

But nothing, nothing will keep us together
Yeah, we can beat them, forever and ever
‘Cause we can be heroes, just for one day

I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
And nothing can drive us away
We can be heroes, just for one day
And we can be us, oh, just for one day

And I, I can remember
Standing, by the wall
And the guns, the guns shot above our heads
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall

And the shame, was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them, oh, forever and ever
Then we could be heroes, oh, just for one day
We, we can be heroes
We, we can be heroes
And we, we can be heroes, just for one day
We can be heroes

Don’t feel pressured into doing this challenge. If you’ve already done it before or don’t want to, then that’s fine. But if you do, link me! I’d love to see what you’ve picked

Sunshine Blogger Award

Hey, book lovers!

Is it really Thursday?! I can’t believe it. Taylor from Nerd Narration nominated me. And I can’t thank her enough for doing so.

If you haven’t checked out her blog, do it!

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are creative, positive, and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.

How Does it Work:

  • Thank the person who nominated you in the blog post & link back to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or on your blog.

Taylor’s Questions

What is one of your favourite book quotes?

“I will have you without armor, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all.” —Inej, Six of Crows

If you won a free plane ticket anywhere in the world where would it take you and what is the FIRST thing you’d do there?

Scotland. I want to see where my family originated from.

What is your favorite underrated/under reviewed book?

What celebrity would cause death by fangirling if you got to meet them on the street?

I think I would die happy if I saw Tom Hiddleston dressed up as Loki. I’d pet him before I let myself die though.

What is your favorite 2018 read — so far?

I LOVE MY LITTLE DARK BABIES

What is the last band you saw in concert?

HA. I’ve been to only two concerts, so I’ll say Jack’s Mannequin.

What’s the last book that made you cry?

I’m getting to the good stuff, and I’m all weepy. Someone smack me, please. 😭

What’s the current most played track on your Spotify/Apple Music/iTunes playlist? No cheating!

You may laugh at this, but it’s the Avengers: Infinity War teaser trailer track.

If you were going to get a tattoo based off a book what would you get and why?

I would take a quote from the Throne of Glass series. I never thought I’d relate to a character as much as I do with Aelin.

What’s your favorite meal? Your go-to dinner if money wasn’t an option.

There was an old pizza joint in town. And it made the best panzerotti I’ve ever tasted. You don’t know how much money I’d spend just to have another bite of it.

Who’s your fictional crush and who would you cast IRL to play them?

*crushes (help me)

Thorne from the Lunar Chronicles. Honestly, I’d be perfectly fine commandeering stuff and flying around the Earth. 😂

Three-Day Lyrical Challenge (Day 1)

Hey, everyone!

I want to thank the lovely Sara from Bibliophagist. 💜 Back in August, she tagged me. And I’ve been meaning to do this post but simply forgot.

The rules are simple:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  3. Nominate three other bloggers each day.

Today is day 1 of this challenge, and I can’t wait to start. I rarely talk about my musical love. I typically stay with the literary variety.

Not many people know that I adore Florence + the Machine. Several of her songs have helped me through some tough times. So I’m excited to share my favourite song, Seven Devils. It’s haunting, endearing, and uplifting all at once. I’ll never stop listening to it. I hope you enjoy!

Holy water cannot help you down
Hours and armies couldn’t keep me out
I don’t want your money
I don’t want your crowd
See I have to burn
Your kingdom down
Holy water cannot help you now
See I’ve had to burn your kingdom down
And no rivers and no lakes can put the fire out
I’m gonna raise the stakes, I’m gonna smoke you out
Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in my house
See they were there when I woke up this morning
I’ll be dead before the day is done
Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in your house
See I was dead when I woke up this morning
I’ll be dead before the day is done
Before the day is done
And now all your love will be exorcised
And we will find you saying it’s to be better now
And it’s an even sum
It’s a melody
It’s a battle cry
It’s a symphony
Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in my house
See they were there when I woke up this morning
I’ll be dead before the day is done
Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in your house
See I was dead when I woke up this morning
And I’ll be dead before the day is done
Before the day is done
Before the day is done
Before the day is done
They can keep me high
‘Til I tear the walls
‘Til I save your heart
And I take your soul
And what have we done?
Can I be undone?
In the evil heart
In the evil soul
Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in your house
See I was dead when I woke up this morning
I’ll be dead before the day is done
Before the day is done

Tag Time!

I don’t want anyone to feel obligated to do this tag. If you want to do so, go a head. I’d love to see which lyrics you choose. If not, I’m fine with that as well. And again, if I haven’t tagged you, you can do it either way. I don’t want to exclude anyone.
