Monthly Wrap-Up: February 2021

Morning, everyone!

I think I can safely say February wasn’t the most horrible month of 2021. I got some books off my TBR list and added a few more. Even though I sprained my ankle, which is slowly healing, February wasn’t too bad.

I hope you enjoy the read!

Top Ten Tuesday | Funny Book Titles

Happy Tuesday, bloggers!

Other than the cover design, the book title is the first element you see in book marketing. It’ll either make or break the book. So the title is supreme. Sometimes, you see your typical X of Y and Z, a meaningful title, or a funny one. I particularly love the last option.

Top Ten Tuesday | Spring Cleaning

Happy Tuesday, bloggers!

I don’t do a lot of spring cleaning. I typically get rid of things I don’t want throughout the year. With books though, I have a hard time removing them from my TBR list and pile. So for this post, I want to highlight books I’d like to read soon.

Top Ten Tuesday, originally created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is a weekly meme. The next prompt is spring cleaning. We can talk about books we want to get off our TBR list or remove them completely.

ARC Review | A Stranger in Town by Kelley Armstrong

In the next riveting thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, the paranoia increases – along with the stakes – as the town of Rockton tries to solve the latest mystery at their door.

Detective Casey Duncan has noticed fewer and fewer residents coming in to the hidden town of Rockton, and no extensions being granted. Her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, presumes it’s the natural flux of things, but Casey’s not so sure. It seems like something bigger is happening in the small town they call home.

When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, someone who seems to have come to the Yukon for a wilderness vacation but instead is now fighting for her life, it’s all hands on deck. What – or who – attacked this woman, and why?

With the woman unconscious, and no leads, Casey and Eric don’t know where the threat is coming from. Plus, the residents of their deeply secretive town are uneasy with this stranger in their midst. Everyone in Rockton wants this mystery solved – and fast.

I’ve received a digital copy of the book from the publisher for an unbiased and honest review.

When you find a series that slowly pulls you into an intricate world, you marvel at how you arrived at the sixth installment. But here we are. Rockton is somehow magical and surreal yet tangible. Since I first encountered this off-the-grid Yukon town, where people escape from society or officials, I knew it was a place I wanted to explore endlessly. And Kelley has a way of drawing you in and won’t let you go.

Casey Duncan, the town’s deputy, and Eric Dalton, the Sheriff, deal with internal and unknown external forces that affect their and the town’s way of life. They don’t know who to trust, what to think, or how to protect their people. As a stranger interrupts their night off, they need to figure out how she found out about Rockton and who else knows of them as well.

The Rockton series is one number one favourite thriller. I don’t read many from this genre, but Kelley has a way of convincing you to dive in. Each new novel of this series grows to be more addictive. And readers, including me, need to know what’s next for the Rockton family. Kelley offers you complex characters and thrilling storytelling. You’re rooting for characters who normally don’t enjoy reading. You fall in love with nature and the dangers of the land.

In this installment, Kelley uncovers deeply hidden secrets of the town. I’ve been dreaming of the day when we readers find out. And I have to tell you: I’m impressed. The author knows how to draw out a storyline, and I love her for it. Even when finding out, I knew my love of the Yukon town wouldn’t diminish. Each character, story arc, and misadventure provide a unique reading experience. You look past the flawed characters, even killers, and piece together who they are as humans. The series is a beautifully crafted experience for the human condition.

If you’re a fan of Kelley Armstrong and her Rockton series, A Stranger in Town is your next read! Don’t miss out on this series.

Top Ten Tuesday | Mardi Gras

Happy Tuesday, bloggers!

It’s Mardi Gras! I’m a Northerner, so I don’t celebrate it. Yet I’ve always wanted to, especially during this snowstorm. For this week, we get to rave about book covers with yellow, purple, and/ or green.

Interview with Kelley Armstrong, Bestselling Author of A Stranger in Town

Morning, everyone!

I had the honour of interviewing one of my favourite Canadian authors Kelley Armstrong. This week, the next installment of her Rockton series, A Stranger in Town, will release! And I had the pleasure of an early review of the novel.

I have followed Kelley since I was thirteen. She creates compelling characters and dark, gritty storylines. Her Rockton series is one of the best in Canadian fiction.

So without much ado, let us all welcome Kelley!
