Twenty Questions Tag

Hey, everyone!

In the last week, I’ve been putting off doing more posts, but I can’t help myself when it comes to tags. They’re a perfect filler, right? And since doing this one, I don’t feel so bad. 😂 So I found this tag on Elaine Howlin, and I knew I had to do it.

1. How many books is too many in a series?

I snorted at this question. One series I’ve read has thirteen primary books and many novellas and short stories. So let’s just say four or five is a good number.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

If they’re handled correctly, I love them. But I feel too many authors depend on them so readers will read the next book. I prefer chapter cliffhangers over book ones.

3. Hardback or Paperback?

Both, but I’m starting to like paperbacks now. And I used to hate them.

4. Favorite book?

I hate this question. I have too many. But the one that stands out from the rest is White Oleander by Janet Fitch.

5. Least Favorite book?

I think we all know why I don’t like it. So I don’t need to repeat myself (phew).

6. Love Triangles, yes or no?

No, no, definitely not. No chance will I ever love this trope. It needs to die horribly.

7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?

I simply couldn’t get past a few chapters. The author has a great background, but I didn’t love his writing.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

FINALLY, right?! I’ve been waiting for such a long time to get to the sequel, and I am loving every single chapter. I can’t wait to finish it.

9. The last book you recommended to someone?

I’ll always recommend this series. I just wish there were more books in it.

10. The oldest book you’ve read?

You can fight me, but this book is perfection.

11. Newest book you’ve read?

IT BROKE ME. I’m not okay. Not. Okay. My babies don’t deserve this pain. And I’m raging because I don’t have the final book.

12. Favorite Author?

Kelley Armstrong, Leigh Bardugo, V. E. Schwab, Sarah J. Maas, Marissa Meyer, Ariana Franklin.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

I need to buy books since my local library doesn’t usually offer them until a year after the pub. date. If I relied on it, I wouldn’t be a blogger, now would I? 😕

14. A book you dislike that everyone seems to love?

I don’t particularly hate it. But I strongly dislike it if that makes sense at all.

15. Bookmarks or dog ears?

You heathen. Of course, I’d use bookmarks. I even bought a bookmark keeper to store all of them. 😂

16. A book you can always re-read?

The tension, the Feysand vibes, the plot twists, and the strength will always call me back to ACOMAF.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

Yes. I can also read while watching a movie or TV show. So basically, I multi-task, and I don’t know how I get anything done.

18. One POV or multiple POVs? (POV = point of view)

Either or. I love seeing what other characters are thinking, what they’re feeling, and how they see the same situation in a different light.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Most of the time, I read over several days. But some books have made me binge read within a day.

20. A book you’ve read because of the cover?

I first fell in love with the cover, but the story offers so much more than that. I can’t wait to read Evermore!

Tag time!

Okay, don’t feel obligated to do this tag. If you’ve already done it, or don’t want to, that’s fine. Now, if I haven’t tagged you, go for it! I loved this tag, and I hope to see what you all think! Have fun!!

🎉Birthday Book Tag and Epic Birthday Blog Tag🎉

Obviously, as you can tell, I have aged today. I’m just one year closer to thirty, and somehow, I don’t look it. Thank God for my shortness. This year, my birthday lands on the awkward Thursday where no one can really do anything, so I’ll just squeeze in more reading time. I can’t complain about that though.

I haven’t seen these tags before. But I happened to find the first one on Bound to Writing! And I saw the second on Melting Pots and Other Calamities. Now, go take a look at their other posts. They deserve some love too. 😉  I somehow ran into a problem since I couldn’t pick which one to post. So I apologize for this being long.

As you may tell, I took some liberties with the tags below. 😂

Birthday Book Tag

COUNT YOUR BIRTHDAY ALONG YOUR BOOKSHELF AND THEN SUBTRACT YOUR BIRTH MONTH

Doesn’t this cover look so pretty? I love it. I cannot wait to get into this Anatasia retelling!

IF YOU COULD SPEND YOUR BIRTHDAY WITH ANY FICTIONAL CHARACTER WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Because I’m a salty, sarcastic, and slightly scary small person, I’ve decided to choose the Dregs from Six of Crows. I want Kaz to teach me how to cheat someone, Inej to teach me how to stab someone ( this reason sounded better in my head), Nina to show me the best waffle houses, and so on.
And I can’t believe I used all S’s for the adjectives to describe me. I don’t mean to do that. 😅

FIND A BOOK THAT TAKES PLACE IN THE SEASON YOU WERE BORN IN

Yes, I’m using this book as a smut reference. If memory serves me correctly, Feyre accepts the mating bond with Rhys during Calanmai, which surprisingly is when they also met the year prior.

FIND A BOOK THAT IS THE COLOR OF YOUR BIRTHSTONE

I’m not a huge fan of green, so I can’t find a cover I like. But the one that reminds me of May is Wild Beauty. And it has a few splashes of that colour. Please, let me find time to read this beautiful book.

PICK A BOOK SET IN A TIME PERIOD, WORLD, OR COUNTRY YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE BEEN BORN IN

Since I know how women were horribly treated in the past, and I love the luxury of baths, books, and airconditioning, I don’t think I’d want to go back there. So I hope (but doubt) the future will be better. But for this book, I’m just here for the technology and shiny colours. And so help me, if the sequel’s cover isn’t as beautiful as this one, I will ugly cry.

The Epic Birthday Blog Tag

The Rules

  1. Always Always Always pingback/link to icebreaker694‘s site (she wants to see your answers).
  2. Post this on your birthday!!! Or not, y’know, you do you.
  3. Answer the questions! (You might have to do some digging, hope that’s not a problem.)
  4. Tag as many bloggers as you can! (At least 1+ so the tag won’t die!)

When’s your birthday (month + day)?

May 10 (obviously)

What’s your Zodiac sign?

Mother bloody Taurus

What’s your birthstone?

Emerald, the most fragile gemstone there is. I see no shade in that comment 😒

Do you know someone with the same birthday?

Sid Vicious (okay this post is getting weird now)

What historical event occurred on your birthday?

Apparently, my birthday means nothing to you. But let’s continue.

Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as South America’s first black president. Okay, now that’s more important. John Wayne Gacy died a year after my birth (and there goes my excitement).

What do you usually do to celebrate your birthday?

I eat too many cupcakes, read, and try to avoid everyone. Then I get bombarded by messages on Facebook because everyone needs that site to remember all their friends’ birthdays.

Were you born in the morning, afternoon or night?

Afternoon! And I know the exact time, which I won’t tell you. 😝

If you could have any present in the world, what present would it be?

Are you truly asking me this question?! Honestly, if I could have a hidden library with a hidden door leading to it, I’d be in heaven.

How did you get your name?

…A soap opera. Thanks, Mom. Do you know how many times people have tried, but failed, to pronounce my name? The most memorable is “Shabam.” I couldn’t stop laughing in my coding class. I don’t know how my teacher came up with that name.

Have you ever forgotten your birthday?

LOL. Yes, this week.

Book flash: Five books you’d want to be given on your special day!

Luckily, I was able to the snag the first two books, but I need to wait for the last three. 😒 Here are my picks:

  • Winter by Marissa Meyer
  • Heartless by Marissa Meyer
  • The Wicked King by Holly Black
  • Legendary by Stephanie Garber
  • A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

Tag time!

Since there’s little way for me know if your birthdays are coming up, I tag anyone and everyone! I had such a great time doing these tags, and I hope you do too. Just link me back. I’d love to read what your answers are!

Top Ten Tuesday | Loathsome Characters from My Favourite Books

For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, we get to talk about our most loved characters in our least favourite books/series. I’ve debated over and changed this post twice. Twice. I first thought I’ll go the easy route, then I changed my mind at midnight. Here are the characters I hate (or strongly dislike). So prepare for a hate-filled post.

I warn you now that there may be some SPOILERS ahead. Look at the header of each book before you proceed.

Evangeline in King’s Cage

I wanted to talk about how Victoria has done Shade wrong. He is, by far, my favourite character in the series. Then she kills him off. But I want to talk about the metal-manipulating character who loves to hate anything that breathes. I absolutely hated Evangeline in the first two books, but once I read King’s Cage, I grew to understand her, and I don’t hate her so much now.

Mirabella from Three Dark Crowns

Oh, I shouldn’t have picked this book. I’m a huge emotional reader, and Three Dark Crowns made me angry. I love the story. But Mirabella, the elemental, decided to steal another woman’s man. I get that she didn’t know he was taken the first time she slept with him, but she just couldn’t stop. I can’t stand the character, and I hope she dies horribly. 🙃

Jarek from The Last Namsara

Jarek, the Commandant of the Dragon King, may just take the cake. I wanted a dragon to eat this bastard. Feel my anger? Yeah. He saved Asha, now the dragon hunter, and for his reward, he gets to marry her. He subtly and not so subtly threatens Asha and contorts his power, then uses it to bring turmoil. I felt Asha’s fear when I read the scenes between the two. He creeped me out.

Marcus from A Torch against the Night

Again, I can easily go the quick way and choose the Commandant, who I’d like nothing more to see dead. Okay, I’d love for her to get gutted, dismembered, beheaded, and skinned, but I’m talking about Marcus here. He’s the new Emperor and would love to break Helene, his Blood Strike. You witness how he falls apart, yet he retains his wickedness. I do not look forward to what he’ll do in A Reaper at the Gates.

Callum Harker from This Savage Song

When I think of this series, I want to cry all over again. The ending of Our Dark Duet bloody gutted me. And I’m holding back tears right now. Verity is a place to avoid. I wouldn’t want to visit it even if I could see August. I love you, boy. But with my luck, I’d get sucked dry by a monster. Now Callum freaks me out. He brings shivers down your back when you think of him. He sees no point to make his city better. He thrives on hate and has shaped his daughter into his image. A large part of me was happy when he died.
