Monthly Wrap-Up: February 2019

Hey book fam,

Phew! Another month has passed, and I can let out a well-deserved sigh of relief. February was rather slow and hard for me personally. We finally got the results of my Mom’s cancer. And she’s in the early stages, which I can’t believe.

I wanted to take some time away from my blog. But you all were the reason why I stayed. You kept me smiling and laughing. You kept the shadows away. And I cannot thank you enough for all of your support.

Even though blogging is stressful, it has given me purpose and drive to strive forward, even when I feel I can’t get off the ground. So although February was arduous, I found an escape through this community and some great books. Now, let’s get to the wrap-up, yes?

I should have known my quest for vengeance would eventually be my downfall. I should have been more careful, more paranoid–but I’m glad I wasn’t. Who knew that getting caught for my crimes would lead to so much happiness?

But joy can be fleeting…

It turns out, this battle is only just beginning. With ultimate power on the line, my faceless enemies will stop at nothing to capture me, dead or alive. I need to master my abilities, fast, or this could be the end for someone I care far too deeply about.

I’m Kit Davenport and this is going to be a bumpy flight.

“Because she may be our Kit, but she was my Vixen. And no one fucks with what’s mine.”

This reverse harem series knows how to hook you in, trap you, then entice you beyond words. And I am one of its victims. So let the book world know this one fact: I am trash for Kit Davenport novels. And I do not see my addiction getting any better. So please send help.

Ciarah O’Rourke was born into torture.
A human spirit reincarnated in the body of an ancient fae goddess, she’s spent the last five years in iron shackles, her mind poisoned with magic for secrets she doesn’t know.

Waking up in a dirty alley with no memory of her escape, Ciarah finds herself in the hands of The Wild Hunt Motorcycle Club–a ruthless and violent group of bikers with faerie blood in their veins.

Arlo. Reece. Killian.
Three men drenched in death, sin, and old magic.
From their clubhouse in the middle of the Louisiana bayou, they’ll offer Ciarah the keys to unlock her memories and control the veil between worlds.  But even her knights can’t erase the twisted scars that remind her they aren’t the only ones who hunt.

When The Wild Hunt rides, the souls of the dead join their parade.
All that’s missing now is their queen.

I’ve received an eARC for an unbiased and honest review. I want to thank Xpresso Book Tours, the authors, and the publisher for providing me with this copy.

I’m the goddess and I’ll have my males as I please.

Calling all paranormal romance lovers, this book should be on your TBR list. The Fae Queen is back, and she’s looking for her Lords. Brimming with magic, Dark Glitter blends together urban fantasy with old-world folklore, but with a twist.

Sweet Jesus. For all you paranormal romance and reverse harem readers out there, do not read Dark Glitter anywhere outside of the confines of your house, or you’ll go red in the face. This steamy read will entice all readers who are looking to spice up their book collection.

The reason I signed up for this tour is because of Tate. I previously read her debut novel, The Vixen’s Lead, and I knew I had to get my hands on another one of her books. I admit that Dark Glitter is not a Kit Davenport story. You don’t get intense and quiet Cole or sultry River. What you do get are hardened fae bikers who have been looking for the Keeper of the Veil, who must carry out her destiny. And she so happens to be Ciarah O’Rourke. The only issue is that she doesn’t have any of her memories, except the ones where she’s tortured. And she needs them so that she can bring her fae people back home.

I loved the mythology in this romance novel. Both authors excelled in introducing lore from different backgrounds. You get a mix of a few, and that livens up the story. The romance is fierce and starts off rather quickly. I was hoping for more lead up to that since it allows readers to get to know the characters in their own right, then see them progress into that romance. But don’t expect any mates here. The main character wants her men, and she shall get them indeed.

Dark Glitter is more plot driven. The story relies heavily on the lore. But I don’t mind that direction though. As you continue through the story, the authors introduce more layers. But you may not see a large amount of character development, which I wanted to see more of. However, I do find the characters intriguing though.

Ciarah awakens to find fractured memories and has no remember of who she is. Once the Wild Hunt finds her, she doesn’t understand her past. Two spirits inhabit her: her own and the spirit of the Keeper of the Veil. I truly sympathized with her, and her torture scenes are graphic, but she quickly learns her place in the fae. And her alpha female demeanour is not something to go up against. Her Lords—Reece, Arlo, and Killian—bring out a new side in Ciarah. I love their banter. I prefer Arlo though; he is the hard, alpha male who has a soft spot. Killian is sweet, quiet, and caring. And while Reece is adorable, I cannot stand his accent.

Dark Glitter is the new book on the paranormal romance scene. It’s dark, intense, and torrid. More importantly, it’s gritty and unapologetic. This woman rules over her Wild Hunt and her Lords. She is the Queen, and she’s looking for revenge.

Authors’ Biographies

C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn’t mind – especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.

She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she’s not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She’s the author of over thirty novels – romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There’s a heck of a lot to do there.

Oh, and Caitlin loves to chat (incessantly), so feel free to e-mail her, send her a Facebook message, or put up smoke signals. She’s already looking forward to it.

Tate James was born and raised in the Land of the Long White Cloud (New Zealand) but now lives in Australia with her husband, baby and furbaby.

She is a lover of books, red wine, cats and coffee and is not a morning person. She is a bit too sarcastic and swears too much for polite society and definitely tells too many dirty jokes.

Book and ARC Haul: December 2017

Well, December was quite uneventful and short. But I’ve been meaning to see what the fuss is with a certain series. And recently, I wanted to catch up on some blog tours. I haven’t honestly thought that I would buy an entire series, but here I am. I officially have no room on my shelves. So guess who needs at least two now. I need two jobs to support my habit.

I may need more willpower when it comes to buying books though.

Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

For years, I’ve been wanting to get into the Throne of Glass series. And since a few months ago, I bought Tower of Dawn, I couldn’t just let that book sit alone on my shelf, right? Unfortunately, I spoiled myself. So I know what has occurred in this series. But I’m Maas trash, and I’d probably buy anything she decides to publish.

How do you like this series? Are you looking forward to the last book?

The Vixen’s Lead by Tate James

I found out this book has a reverse harem theme, and I thought, “Huh. Go for it.” I’m slowly growing my paranormal romance collection, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to be a part of this blog tour! I’m dying to pick up the rest of the Kit Davenport series.

Hinder by Kristin Ping

Look at the cover, then you’ll realize why I picked up the book. This new series brings a new twist to the witch-themed storyline. Ethan and Alex constantly face danger because of their Earth powers. Both must learn how to work together and deny their attraction toward each other, but their union may save their supernatural world or end it all together.

If you’re looking for something, Hinder may spark your interest!

I want vengeance so badly that I can almost taste it. It’s all I’ve ever wanted. So, I did what any privileged, adopted boarding school girl would do. I slapped on a secret identity and became an internationally renowned thief, known as The Fox. Nobody knows me. Nobody can catch me.

Or so I thought…

It turns out; I have what they want. Special abilities. And trust me, these abilities are coveted–and dangerous. Now, I don’t know who to trust or where to go. Peril lurks on every corner as I try to uncover my past and origin. Teaming up with unlikely allies may be my only chance at survival or my biggest mistake. Only time will tell.

I’m Kit Davenport and this is only the beginning.

I’ve received an eARC for an unbiased and honest review.

“Don’t move from this spot, Vixen. There are some bad sorts in this room, but you’ll be safe here.”

Listen up, paranormal romance fans. Tate James is paving her way, and you had better not miss this series because it’s the next sizzling read you’ve been waiting for.

Hellbent on revenge, Kit Davenport—known as “the Fox,” a renown thief—teams up with her closest friend and fellow foster sister, Lucy. Together, they’ve faced untold pain by the hand of an abusive foster parent. Now, Kit steals from the very men who wronged them. And she hasn’t been caught yet. Until now. When a team of men stops an attempted abduction, Kit must confront her past, trust these men, and figure out how she has developed these abilities.

I’m not going to lie: I love this book, and I’m dying to get my hands on the sequels. I would have finished this in probably two days, but this cold kicked my butt. Nonetheless, I love it! And I recommend it to any PR reader who’s looking for a steamy, dangerous, and insta-lust novel.

Vixen’s Lead is my first reverse harem story. So I’m not accustomed to this type of storyline, but Tate weaves it in naturally. And it doesn’t ruin the overall story; it enhances everything. I also thought that this many characters might detract from the book. However, I fell in love with all of them. I was hoping for a bit more development, though. But the author plans on writing six books for her series, so I can’t hold that issue against her. This debut novel is more plot-driven. Tates adds in horrific backstories, hardened yet fragile (and relatable) characters, and action-packed scenes.

The relationship between Kit and Lucy will melt your heart. Tates gives you real characters who are still fighting their past and somehow working past their pain, albeit slowly. She also throws in sexy banter and steamy chemistry among Kit and these men who work for the Omega Group. I’d suggest you book some time off and prepare yourself for these delectable alpha males because there are plenty, and you don’t want to miss out on a single one.

The paranormal side works as a secondary arc in this novel. It plays a stronger role in the last half of the book and opens up new storylines for future books, so I’m not disappointed that it doesn’t take centre stage. Kit does. She is one of those female leads who will rival my own sarcasm, and I appreciate seeing that in a character like her. Her weakness will speak to many readers looking for believable characters.

I wasn’t sure if I’d like reading this story, but, as you can tell, I was wrong. And I’m glad I am. I cannot wait to read what else is in store for Kit. This suspenseful paranormal romance will make you ask for more.

Be warned that the novel involves several triggers that readers may not be comfortable reading.
