Monthly Wrap-Up: February 2021

Morning, everyone!

I think I can safely say February wasn’t the most horrible month of 2021. I got some books off my TBR list and added a few more. Even though I sprained my ankle, which is slowly healing, February wasn’t too bad.

I hope you enjoy the read!

In the next riveting thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, the paranoia increases – along with the stakes – as the town of Rockton tries to solve the latest mystery at their door.

Detective Casey Duncan has noticed fewer and fewer residents coming in to the hidden town of Rockton, and no extensions being granted. Her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, presumes it’s the natural flux of things, but Casey’s not so sure. It seems like something bigger is happening in the small town they call home.

When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, someone who seems to have come to the Yukon for a wilderness vacation but instead is now fighting for her life, it’s all hands on deck. What – or who – attacked this woman, and why?

With the woman unconscious, and no leads, Casey and Eric don’t know where the threat is coming from. Plus, the residents of their deeply secretive town are uneasy with this stranger in their midst. Everyone in Rockton wants this mystery solved – and fast.

I’ve received a digital copy of the book from the publisher for an unbiased and honest review.

When you find a series that slowly pulls you into an intricate world, you marvel at how you arrived at the sixth installment. But here we are. Rockton is somehow magical and surreal yet tangible. Since I first encountered this off-the-grid Yukon town, where people escape from society or officials, I knew it was a place I wanted to explore endlessly. And Kelley has a way of drawing you in and won’t let you go.

Casey Duncan, the town’s deputy, and Eric Dalton, the Sheriff, deal with internal and unknown external forces that affect their and the town’s way of life. They don’t know who to trust, what to think, or how to protect their people. As a stranger interrupts their night off, they need to figure out how she found out about Rockton and who else knows of them as well.

The Rockton series is one number one favourite thriller. I don’t read many from this genre, but Kelley has a way of convincing you to dive in. Each new novel of this series grows to be more addictive. And readers, including me, need to know what’s next for the Rockton family. Kelley offers you complex characters and thrilling storytelling. You’re rooting for characters who normally don’t enjoy reading. You fall in love with nature and the dangers of the land.

In this installment, Kelley uncovers deeply hidden secrets of the town. I’ve been dreaming of the day when we readers find out. And I have to tell you: I’m impressed. The author knows how to draw out a storyline, and I love her for it. Even when finding out, I knew my love of the Yukon town wouldn’t diminish. Each character, story arc, and misadventure provide a unique reading experience. You look past the flawed characters, even killers, and piece together who they are as humans. The series is a beautifully crafted experience for the human condition.

If you’re a fan of Kelley Armstrong and her Rockton series, A Stranger in Town is your next read! Don’t miss out on this series.

Interview with Kelley Armstrong, Bestselling Author of A Stranger in Town

Morning, everyone!

I had the honour of interviewing one of my favourite Canadian authors Kelley Armstrong. This week, the next installment of her Rockton series, A Stranger in Town, will release! And I had the pleasure of an early review of the novel.

I have followed Kelley since I was thirteen. She creates compelling characters and dark, gritty storylines. Her Rockton series is one of the best in Canadian fiction.

So without much ado, let us all welcome Kelley!

Most Anticipated Reads of December 2019

Morning, readers!

I almost planned not to do this post since many of the choices for December aren’t on my TBR list. However, I knew others would be interested in seeing what made the final cut.

So even though my plans have changed, the post will be short and sweet. Don’t worry about it being long. It’ll be a quick and easy read!

Now let’s get to it, shall we?

Review | Watcher in the Woods by Kelley Armstrong

Watcher in the Woods by Kelley Armstrong

Published by: Doubleday Canada

Publication Date: February 12, 2019

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Suspense

Page Count: 416

Rating: 3.75/5

The secret town of Rockton has seen some rocky times lately; understandable considering its mix of criminals and victims fleeing society for refuge within its Yukon borders. Casey Duncan, the town’s only detective on a police force of three, has already faced murder, arson and falling in love in less than the year that she’s lived there. Yet even she didn’t think it would be possible for an outsider to find and cause trouble in the town she’s come to call home.

When a US Marshal shows up in town demanding the release of one of the residents, Casey and her boyfriend, Sheriff Dalton, are skeptical. But then, only hours later, the marshal is shot dead and the only visible suspects are the townspeople and her estranged sister, in town for just the weekend. It’s up to Casey to figure out who murdered the marshal, and why they would kill to keep him quiet.

“The Yukon isn’t an easy place to live—with long, dark winters that never seem to end—but it is a place that people choose. A place that seduces. I don’t need my sister to be seduced, but I want her to see the magic.”

As a series expands, sometimes you aren’t sure if you’ll stick with it, or you’ll fall out of love with it. The Rockton series is one that will always deserve its spot on my bookshelf. I’ve stayed with it from almost the beginning. Each new sequel reminds me of the spark I found when I first discovered Rockton. And Kelley’s writing only improves with every novel. So for the author’s dedicated following, Watcher in the Woods will be a treat for them.

Monthly Wrap-Up | March 2019

Morning, bloggers!

Have you ever had a month where your blog went great, but everything else in your life, particularly reading, just stalled? That’s how I explain my March.

Mom started her treatments, and my thrill in anything has kind of died. But I’m fighting to get back to where I was, even though it’s a daily battle. So life may have been a downer, but my blog kept me fighting. And I have to thank you all for the support. You don’t understand how much I need that right now.

So even though the month was slow, I’m glad I discovered fantastic reads. Hopefully, April is a better month for us all. Now let’s get to this post.
