I’ve struggled with this post. For one, this is the second time I’ve written it. Why? I forgot to save the blasted thing before my MacBook died. So I’m slightly cranky right now. Two, I wanted nothing more than to use the words “a,” “an,” and “the” because I love being an ass sometimes. And three, I’m just not feeling the topic. So this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, I’ve picked the top three words I typically see in a book title.
Girls, Girls, Girls
Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind the word “girl,” when it’s used correctly. But alas, people think a woman is a girl, and using the latter is a better substitute for the former. I can’t stand seeing it in an adult book title. Now, I’ve only watched most of Gone Girl and Dragon Tattoo movies, but I don’t feel the need to watch the rest, nor do I feel inclined to read the books/series.
King or Kingdom
Crooked Kingdom, To Kill a Kingdom, and Daughter of the Pirate King
Ah, my three favourite books. I’ll always feature and recommend these three. They’re that damn good. I just wish I had more sequels in these series.
Ash or Ashes
Kingdom of Ash, City of Ashes, and Ash Princess
You know what? I don’t mind this kind of title. It can go either way. As cheesy as it may sound, a society rising from the ashes will always entice me to pick up the said book. Or it can burn horribly and die, but I’m trying to be positive in this post (really, in this part of the post), okay?
And who’s excited for Kingdom of Ash?!
Throne or Thrones
Throne of Glass, One Dark Throne, and A Game of Thrones
Do you know how many books have this word in it? Far too many. I honestly forgot until I went searching, then I had a hard time choosing which books to feature.
Queen
Red Queen, Daughter of the Siren Queen, and The Queen’s Rising
I’ve read only two of these books, and I loved them both, but queen is a touchy word in a title, I find. Either it works great for YA titles, or it just makes me want to run away from the book. But in this case, I might take a chance to read the last one. What are your thoughts on queeny books?
I wasn’t feeling this topic either. I figured a lot of people would have the same words… so I kind of did my own take.

I hate losing drafts of posts I’ve put together – I love your post though. Girl is very popular and yet in never occurred to me at all!

Thanks!
I don’t why it is though. I’d get why it would for YA books, but it sticks out from an adult one.
