The Fall Book Tag

Morning, bloggers!

So, today is Thanksgiving for us Canadians. And I’m eagerly awaiting to stuff my face and not regret a single bite. I want my turkey and dressing.

I found this fun tag at Through Prose Tinted Pages. And I knew I couldn’t resist and Fall-themed one. Nope. I have no willpower left. I loved Vanessa’s answers. And I’d highly recommend checking out this blog. Vanessa won’t disappoint!

And check out the tag’s creator, Bionic Book Worm.

I don’t give this debut novel enough credit it deserves. Not many quiet main characters can carry along a fantasy book. However, Jules does so perfectly. The currency-is-time concept is what intrigued me. But the writing and the character arcs kept me enthralled. I cannot wait to read Evermore!

I’m not over this ending. I do not accept it. I want nothing more than to weep. Baby August and Kate deserved a better ending than this one. I still haven’t forgiven Victoria.

I love Stephanie. Her debut series never ceases to impress me with elaborate plot twists and character arcs. It’s never a dull read with this book! I’ll forever ship Dantella.

It’s October. You know I can’t resist mentioning this beauty! I’m so scared that I don’t know what to think at this point. I WANT MY BABIES TO LIVE. Or I die with them. 😭

Oh, this question is hard for me. I typically stay with fantasy, and you don’t get the warm and fuzzy’s in that genre. But Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society has stuck with me for years. Yes, the topic is heartbreaking, but this book is one in a few that teaches us how to endure even the worst atrocities. And having most of the characters be book lovers helps as well.

I’m about forty pages in, and I know I’ll like this book. I’ve been wanting a great diverse read, and I’ve heard nothing but great reviews for this title. I also have an affinity for beautiful covers, Japanese storyline, and kitsune. 🦊

Tag Time!

Like always, I don’t want you to feel like you have to do this post. What’s the fun in that? So if you don’t want to do the tag, I’m fine with your decision. But if you do, I’d love to see your answers. So link back to this post, okay? Have fun!

90s Movie Book Tag

Hey, book lovers!

In the last few days, you may have noticed I haven’t been around. Some family and house issues popped up. And, well, I had to prioritize. But I’m back! So let’s get to this tag, yes?!

I found this great tag on Bibliophagist. And I can’t resist these posts. I truly can’t. If you haven’t seen Sara’s blog, you’re missing out. So go check it out!

She’s All That | Name a book that is an odd pairing, but they still fit perfectly

Yes, yes, I haven’t read this yet. But I kind of spoiled myself with a few characters. Okay, most of them. But Manon and Dorian seem like an extreme pairing. They’re shaped by the same hatred and went different paths, but somehow they blend together nicely.

10 Things I Hate about You | A Book/Series You have a Love/Heart Relationship With

As much as I raved about the series, I feel I gave some of the books higher ratings than I should have given. I loved the Red Queen and King’s Cage. However, Glass Sword and War Storm didn’t hit the mark.

Clueless | A Character who is totally clueless, but you have them anyway

Oh Matthias, the cute little yellow tulip, may be one of the clueless characters I’ve ever read. I can’t blame him though. But he’s cute when he is.

Titanic | Name a book that made you cry

Let’s talk about the last book that made me cry. I seem to cry a lot when reading. I never thought I would while reading a Catwoman novel. I hate to admit that I did. The ending is gutwrenching. But I expect nothing less from Sarah.

American Pie | A book that makes you laugh

Frankly, the entire series made me laugh long into the night. I loved it. Alosa may be one of my favourite main characters. Her sass and snark are what makes her memorable.

Can’t Hardly Wait | A book with a crazy party

I’ll never forget that crowning ceremony. I thought it’d be your typical fae party. Nope. Holly gives us an explosive one I never saw coming. I can’t wait for the sequel.

Cruel Intentions | Name a character who you can never fully trust

Joseph and Mirabella. NOPE, nope, nope. I hate these two. Joseph is worse for what he did with her. His betrayal and the hurt he caused Jules made me not pick up the second book. And I hope he gets what he deserves.

Drive Me Crazy | Name your favourite “boy next door” or “girl next door couple”

I’m winging it with this question. I rarely read this trope. Anyways, several times during the series, I wanted to throttle Simon. But he’s grown into a such a great character and friend. Even though Clary never loved him as much as Jace, their short relationship, if you can call it that, was sweet.

Scream | A book with a memorable villain

I think I haven’t wanted a character like the Commander dead so much. This woman is viler than I ever thought a character could be. She has killed and tortured countless people, and she manages to outwit everyone. I don’t know if she can be killed. What more can you ask for an antagonist?

The Craft | Name a book with witches

How can I not talk about Wicked Deep? It’s the perfect witch book. But to this day, that ending still haunts me.

Tag time!

Don’t feel obligated to do this tag. If you want, link back to me. I love reading other blogger’s responses! And if I haven’t tagged you, go ahead and do it.

Happy, Friday!

Remind me how this week has gone by so fast. I’m losing hours. Anyways, today is my final day in this quote challenge. Mariam from Book Mania deserves another big thanks for tagging me.

3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge (Day 2)

Morning book lovers,

So who’s ready for another quote? I’m now onto day 2 of the quote challenge. I want to stick with the whole badass theme with it. So I’ve picked a quote from my King Kaz. He infuriates me, makes me laugh, makes me curl up into the fetal position and cry, and inspires me every day to fight my demons since no one else will.

I want to thank Mariam from Book Mania for tagging me. I appreciate it a lot!  💜

The Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote each day)
  • Nominate 3 new bloggers each day

The Quote

“I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing.

Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting.”

—Kaz Brekker, Crooked Kingdom

Bookish A-Z Survey Tag

Hey, everyone!

Here’s to another weekend. I can’t believe we’re halfway through September already. Can you believe it? Kalina from Kalina Reads tagged me, and I couldn’t pass up this great tag. Go check out her blog. I love it! This post may be long, so prepare yourself.

Author you’ve read the most books from

Kelley Armstrong, Cassandra Clare, Sarah J. Maas, and V. E. Schwab

Best sequel ever

What more can you ask for? Enemy-to-lovers romance, redemption, healing, and one hell of a cast of characters.

Currently reading

How can I pass up reading Catwoman?! She’s my all-time favourite villain/anti-hero. Thankfully, it got me out of my slight reading slump.

Drink of choice while reading

Since Fall is coming, I have to list these two delights: hot chocolate or hot cider!

Ereader or physical book

I don’t mind the convenience of an e-reader. However, I love the feel of a book in my hands. And throwing (lightly, you know I can’t hurt my babies) a book won’t cost me $200+ to replace. 🙃

Fictional character you probably would have actually dated in high school

…..I didn’t date in high school. My mind doesn’t know how to compute with this question. 😐

Glad you gave this book a chance

Honestly, I wrote off the sequel because the first book didn’t capture me as much as I wanted it to. However, I can’t get over the sequel. I love it and can’t wait for the third installment.

Hidden gem book

This beauty was a pick on my Top Ten Tuesday post. But it deserves all the recognition it can get. I can’t get over how this book is meant for book lovers. I love WWII stories, but Guernsey sets the bar high for other books.

Important moment in your reading life

Starting my book blog! I truly didn’t think I’d last more than a year. And somehow, I’m still here, two years in. 😉

Just finished

I’m an instant Kristoff fan! This book is so much more than I thought it might be.

Kinds of books I won’t read

Erotica and chick lit. I don’t mind paranormal romance or romance novels. But I’d rather keep the Christian Greys away from my shelves, thank you.

Longest book you’ve read

Voyager by Diana Gabaldon clocks in at 870 pages. You can’t imagine how many wrist cramps I got.

Major book hangover because of

I found getting into another book was infinitely harder after I finished this book.

Number of bookcases you own

Right now, I own two, but I need two large ones soon. I had to move books again so I could have some space for my new additions.

One book you have read multiple times

Kelley’s debut novel got me to where I am now. And it made me love urban fantasy and just fantasy in general. I’ll never stop promoting her work!

Preferred place to read

I love my Sheldon chair. It creaks and is slightly falling apart, but I love it regardless. Sometimes, Bud likes to steal it from me.

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you have read

“No. I can survive well enough on my own—if given the proper reading material.”

This quote is my life’s motto.

Reading regret

Not finishing the Harry Potter series and not reading TOG earlier!

Series you started and need to finish

This series will kill me, but I don’t care. Just bury me under a weeping willow, and I’ll be fine with this end.

Three of your all-time favourite books

WHY MUST YOU ASK THIS QUESTION?! I’ll pick my three favourite reads with main characters who are morally grey.

Unapologetic fangirl for

Territorial fae men (Maas can use the word males; I use men), enemy-to-lover relationships, and bad boys who are cinnamon buns.

Very excited for this release more than all the others

CAN’T IT COME SOONER?! I’m dying over here.

Worst Bookish habit

Skipping ahead in a book and ruining it entirely. Please tell me I’m not the only reader who does this heinous act.

X marks the spot: start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book

Your latest book purchase

I really need to catch up on this series. I have so many books to read now.

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up way too late)

I lost so much sleep with this series. Almost every chapter has a cliffhanger, and I don’t have to willpower to put down the book.

Tag time!

You know the deal: if you don’t want to do this tag, don’t feel obligated to do so. But if you want to, link back to me! I’d love to see your answers. More importantly, have fun with it!

The Relationshipper Book Tag

Hello, book fam!

How do I start off another glorious reading weekend? I do a tag post. Finally. I’ve been dying to do one!

Anyways, my darlings Teagan and Jess from Fiction No Chaser tagged me! And you know how I love talking about my favourite ships. Thank you, T and J! 💜

Rules:

  1. Answer the eleven questions provided by the blogger who tagged you
  2. Come up with eleven new questions of your own!
  3. Tag 5 new bloggers!
  4. Mention the blogger who tagged you and have fun!!

Jess and Teagan’s Questions

What fictional character from a book would you date and why?

My smol cinnamon bun Az. HE DESERVES ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD. I’m still angry at how Maas misused him. 😠

What would your first date with this character look like? What would you do?

Flying trip!

What fictional characters would form your book significant other harem?

Cardan from Cruel Prince,

Darkling from Grishaverse (what is wrong with me),

Dante from Legendary,

Kaz from Six of Crows,

and William from Clockwork Princess

What’s your least favorite trope when it comes to book relationships?

Cheating. It kills the entire book for me.

What’s your favorite ship?

Rowelin right now. I love Feysand. However, I feel how Rowelin grows as a couple makes them one of my favourite.

What’s a ship you *hate*?

Keenan and Laia from A Torch against the Night. She deserved so much more than what she got from that disgusting man.

What’s a ship you’d like to third wheel with and why?

Lysandion (Lysandra and Aedion)! If this ship doesn’t sail, I’ll do a book burning. Okay, that’s slightly harsh. But I’ll cry hard.

If you could delete one ship from a book, who would it be and why?

Maven and Mare. I don’t know why the YA community thinks this ship was okay. So let me get this message to the people in the back: THIS SHIP WASN’T GOOD. IT WASN’T SANE. Got me? Okay.

What two characters from different fandoms would you like to see together?

I need to see Aelin and Kaz together. The insanity between the two of them may just make the book combust.

What ship that ended are you still mourning?

Nina and Mathias. Can I please have more years to mourn?! WHY DID YOU DO THAT, LEIGH?!?!

…And I’m still salty.

Jacob or Edward?

Neither. 🤷 I honestly don’t know how I liked either of them.

My Questions

Let’s start a long tag post at 10 pm. Sure. That’s a great idea, Sib. Onto the questions:

  1. Which ship do you hope lives forever?
  2. What trope can you not get enough of?
  3. If you could destroy a ship, which one is it?
  4. Which book boy/girlfriend would you steal from his/her significant other?
  5. What is your favourite ship?
  6. What is a ship that makes you want to dig your eyes out?
  7. Which bad guy/girl would you love to date?
  8. Which ship will go down with?
  9. Which ship can you not live without? Why?
  10. What is your newest book crush or your new favourite relationship?
  11. What book relationship burned you the hardest?

Tag time!

But why only five people though?! Okay, you know the deal: if you don’t want to do this tag, you’re good. If you do though, link me! I’d love to see your answers! If I haven’t tagged you (because I had the five-person limit) but want to do it, go ahead!

The #NotAll Book Tags

Happy Friday!

Who’s ready for the weekend? I know I need it by now. I truly do. I found this tag on My World of Books, and it looked like fun. So check out Sahi’s blog!

You know me and tags. Once I see something great, I need to do it, even if there are reviews to do. 😅

#NotAll Cover Changes: A cover change you liked

I’ve been wanting to read the Grishaverse series since it came out, and I’ve been dying to do so when I finished Six of Crows. But what sealed the deal is the new covers. I like the original ones. However, the change makes me swoon.

#NotAll Adaptations: An Adaptation you love more than the book

I’ve read some passages from the book, and I knew it wasn’t to my taste. But the movie is my go-to movies though.

#NotAll Tropes: A trope you’ll never get tired of seeing

ENEMIES TO LOVERS. I’ll be eighty years old and still want this trope to slay me.

#NotAll Insta-Love: You insta-loved this insta-couple

The instalove is more so on Cress’ side, but I love Thorne and Cress together. They are one of my ultimate OTPs! I get all mushy when I think of them. 😍

#NotAll Love Triangles: An example of a love triangle done well

I typically stay with YA titles, but I feel YA is just littered with love triangles that usually don’t work. The exception may be ACOMAF and An Ember in the Ashes. But for an adult book to play this trope, the Cainsville series uses it rather cleverly.

However, I know how the last book ends, and I’m not sure I want to read it any time soon.

#NotAll Parents: Bookish parents who, you know, parent

So either parents are dead, dying, mentally unstable, abusive, or they are all of the above. So finding a book that matches this question took awhile. 😂 But this series has such a great family structure, which I love reading. But I don’t usually see it though.

#NotAll Villains: A villain you love

I haven’t read A Conjuring of Light yet, and I’ve seen only a few scenes with Osaron, but it is one villain I know I’ll love. I can’t wait to see what it does.

#NotAll Chosen Ones: A chosen one you can get behind

I’m just starting to read Heir of Fire, but I love Rowelin. This series may break me. But I don’t care. I adore Aelin. She deserves the same respect Kaz gets.

#NotAll Hyped Books: A book that lived up to the acclaim

My black little heart was so worried this book would not live up to any hype. But it did! And I absolutely love this evil, twisted retelling. Give me siren princesses who rip out hearts and siren-killing, cunning princes.

#NotAll *Insert Favourite Genre*: A book you’re not keen on from your favourite genre

I have a love-hate relationship with TMI. I’m not sure why I still read it (thankfully, not lately), but the last book was too messy and convoluting. Frankly, I’m not into the whole incest trope Cassie liked playing with. It still makes me shudder.

#NotAll *Insert Least Favourite Genre*: A book you liked from a genre you don’t often read

I rarely read contemporary thrillers. You all know how I stick to fantasy. But I’m still trying to healing from this gut-wrenching book.

Tag time!

No pressure. If you don’t want to do it or have already done it, that’s fine. But like always, if you do, link me up! I’d love to see your responses.

Even if I haven’t tagged you, and you’d love to do it, go ahead!

Three Bookish Things Book Tag

Hey, everyone!

This week has been so hectic, and it’s halfway through. 😐 So to brighten my week, I thought I’d do a new tag. I found it on Thrice Read. And if you have any chance to head to there, do it! You won’t be disappointed.

Three Read Once and Loved Authors

Kelley Armstrong – I’ll always read what she publishes. She brings a unique and honest perspective and shows how mental illness and trauma brings complexity to stories.

V. E. Schwab – I’ve read most of her work, but she’ll be one of my favourite authors.

Leigh Bardugo – I know I’ve mentioned her before, but her writing is just a gem to read. I absolutely adore her books, her characters, and her as a person.

Three Titles I’ve Watched But Haven’t Read

(I’ve read and watched most of the last book/movie, but I haven’t finished it yet)

Three Characters You Love

Kaz Brekker – He is utterly and beautifully broken, and yet that what makes him a flawed yet perfect character. He taught me so much, and he showed me things I didn’t want to tackle in my past.

Elias Veturius – His character arch in A Reaper at the Gates nearly broke me, and I’m counting down the days for the final book.

Jude Duarte – She is such a devious, cunning, and surprising character. I wasn’t sure if I’d like her when I first read The Cruel Prince. But she has become one of my favourite female characters.

Three Series Binged

Three Unpopular Bookish Opinions

  1. Fandoms are killing my love reading. I used to love them. But now, I can’t stand to connect with them. I wish fandoms wouldn’t cause internal battles. I’ll stay away from the Maas and Shadowhunter fandoms because the authors’ fans are too hostile and refuse to see the issues in the books.
  2. I wish more readers won’t so extreme with sexuality. One reason why I don’t want to connect with the ACOTAR fandom is because a character can either be straight or gay, not bi. I’ve had people downright all be a homophobe when I mentioned that Mor from ACOTAR is bi but homoromantic.
  3. I want authors to make real female villains who weren’t created “evil” because a man wronged them. I want a woman to be bad because she chooses to be.

Three Current Favourite Book Covers

Three Goals for the Year

I hope for the following:

  1. Find the right balance in life and blogging. Sometimes I feel like I’m trying to catch up with one or the other.
  2. Start to tackle my TBR list instead of just read new releases. I have so many books I haven’t read yet, and I wish I read more quickly to get to them.
  3. Expand my blog. I hope to take more risks, meet more people, and try books I usually won’t read.

Tag Time!

Again, you don’t need to feel obligated to do this tag, but I think you might love it. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. But if you do, link me back! More importantly, have fun with it!

The Reader Confession Tag

Even though I would love to *cough* obsess *cough* over my Scarlet review, which I hoped to write last night, my health decided to kick me when I was down, so I need to take things easy for the next while. Now, say hello to another book tag!

So I saw this one on Hammock of Books. I love when I see Kay’s posts pop up on my Reader feed. Go check out her blog!

Have you ever damaged a book?

😐😐😐

Yes. Several. And I don’t want to talk about it. I feel so guilty. 😭

How long does it take you to read a book?

I typically give myself about seven days to read a book. But I read Cinder in twenty-four hours, and I read a 300-page book in almost two weeks. So I’m all over the board with this question. 😅

Books that you haven’t finished?

I believe I’ve dnf’d a handful of books, but there are plenty I wanted to though.

Hyped/popular books you don’t like?

I don’t understand the book. I love magical realism, but the storyline is all over the place. I honestly tried to love it. Just look at that cover. But I felt the book had two separate stories conflicting with each other, and I’m not sure which one won.

Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?

Smut. Actually, I wouldn’t tell my mom I read it, but she probably already knows since I read it in front of her. I have no shame in reading these books. Oh God, I’m like Nesta. 😂

How many books do you own?

I wouldn’t be surprised if I owned around 300. But compared to some of these bookstagrammers, I’m a baby Smaug.

Are you a fast or a slow reader?

It all depends on the book. I can breeze through a couple hundred pages in a few hours, and sometimes it may take me forever to get through a book.

Do you like to buddy read?

Yassss. My first and last buddy read was with Dana @ Dana and the Books. Both she and I attended college together and took the Ryerson Publishing program as well. And even though she has moved to the UK, we keep tabs on each other. She’s one reason why I first started blogging.

But yes, I love doing it even though I don’t do it often. And this answer gives you permission to bug me into buddy reading with you.

Do you read better in your head or out loud?

Obviously, I prefer reading in my head. I cannot imagine any other way. I’d probably annoy everyone more if I do.

If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?

I’ve always been honest with my readers. I come from poverty and a bad past. So reading, and in extension writing, has saved me. Both have blocked out situations and pain. So if I had only one book to read/own, it is White Oleander. It is my haven, my safe place, my bible. If you’re a survivor, and you’ve read this book, you’ll understand what I mean. If you don’t, I still recommend it to you.

Tag time!

Just because I tag you doesn’t mean you’re obligated to do this tag. I just thought you might have fun doing. Now if you do, link me back. I want to read your answers.

For anyone who I haven’t tagged, you can do it as well! I’m not stopping you. 😉

The Secret Life of a Book Blogger Tag

Another month and another tag. I wasn’t tagged specifically, but Amy and Nikki @ Bursting with Books sparked my interest in this tag. And you know my love for these.

I need to find more because I’m running out of tag posts! 😭

How long have you been a blogger?

Two years this July. Holy God, I’m getting old.

At what point do you think you will stop?

Why would you ask me that?! Well, I’m not sure. Perhaps if my life gets too hectic, then I may stop.

What is the best thing?

Finally opening up to people, learning new things from the book community, reaching out and connecting with authors, and finding new friends, books, and opinions.

What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?

The never-ending stress I put on myself if I don’t get to posting or commenting. I think I’ll always struggle with that constant feeling.

I tell myself that I come first. My blogging group will understand if I need a break.

How long does it take you to create/find pictures to use?

HA. Typically 90% of all my images are either book covers or graphics I made. Once I change my blog name (I keep mentioning this but never do anything about it), I want to get into Instagram, so I hope to start using my photos.

Who is your book crush?

The men of ACOTAR, except, and this is a big except, Tamlin the Tool™. But most recently, I’ve fallen hard for Elian in To Kill and Kingdom, and I may be prematurely (but desperately hoping) crushing on Riden from Daughter of the Pirate King (Thank you, Kathy, for telling me to read this series).

What author would you like to have on your blog?

My QUEEN, Leigh Bardugo. But recently, I’d love the debut author of Everless, Sara Holland, to be on my blog. And I think I’d die if Maas was on here as well.

What do you wear when you write your blog posts?

LOL. I practically live in my pajamas, particularly the ones I got for Christmas. They have little polar bears and snowflakes on them, and to top off this look, I wear a robe with a polar bear head on the hoodie. Not a real one though. That’d be cruel, and I’d hate myself.

I thought I can only ramble in real life, but here I am, rambling online. 😶

How long does it take you to prepare?

Ahahahahaha. Reviews may take no more than an hour, but processing my thoughts and my emotions, which want to control what I write, may get in the way. And I may get distracted by the cats on Instagram or my little fur brat, so it really all depends.

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

I absolutely love it, but with differing opinions, you’ll always get in heated debates. One issue I have is the harder shippers. Another major issue is the fact that some readers (bloggers included) who see a character as strictly straight or gay. Excuse me, but bi exists, and we should respect it, especially homoromantic and hetroromantic.

Yes, since I thrive in chaos, I’ll discuss my opinion in one of my upcoming discussion posts, and I’ll probably get filleted for doing so.

What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

Whether you strike it big once you start out, or like me, you’re still building your followers, be honest with them. Make sure you have time to make posts. And don’t be like I used to by not commenting on other bloggers’ posts. Yes, I’m more shy than a church mouse sometimes, but the blogging community has given me a way to find my voice again. So contribute to this community, and it will give back to you.

Who do you tag?

YOU. Anyone who wants to do this can. You don’t have to do the post. But to keep to tradition, here are my picks:

  1. Nina @ The Cozy Pages
  2. Marline @ Merline Reads
  3. Lena @ The Printed Girl
  4. Amber @ Step into a Book World
  5. Kaila @ The Traveling Inkwell
  6. Kay @ Hammock of Books
  7. Poulami @ Daydreaming Books
  8. LaRonda @ Flying Paperbacks
  9. Ianthe @ Pagefuls
  10. Cassie @ Rants and Raves of a Bibliophile
